Whitehaven supports CUC North West

07 Nov 2025

In a significant show of support for rural higher education, Whitehaven Coal has formally sponsored the Country Universities Centre (CUC) North West, reinforcing its commitment to community-driven initiatives. The announcement was made during the 2025 Graduation Ceremony, held at The Exchange in Narrabri, where Whitehaven representatives attended to celebrate the achievements of local graduates.

CUC North West provides vital study spaces, academic guidance, mentoring, and industry connections to students in regional NSW, aiming to make university education more accessible and meaningful. To date, the Centre has supported over 700 students, representing more than 35 Australian higher education providers.

Whitehaven’s sponsorship aligns with its strategic focus on building economic prosperity, improving liveability, and supporting education, training, and employment in its host communities.

“By removing barriers like cost, distance and isolation, students stay connected to the region they call home,” said CUC North West Chair Letitia Cross. For Whitehaven, the sponsorship is part of a broader strategy that allocates significant resources to regional community programs—particularly those that enhance local prosperity, education, and well-being.

With Whitehaven on board, CUC North West plans to:

  • Enhance study-resource availability
  • Strengthen local career-pathway connections linked to industry and employers

Together, Whitehaven Coal and CUC North West are opening doors for rural students, ensuring their ambitions are nurtured within their communities rather than through relocation.

This partnership not only celebrates educational milestones but also reaffirms both organisations’ shared dedication to cultivating regional talent and community resilience.
