Event Details

We’ve all read books, but academic reading is different. Learn how to choose your sources wisely, so you don’t waste time reading something which is irrelevant. Practise different reading skills, like skimming, scanning, previewing or detailed reading, then get out your trusty hi-lighter and prepare to take some notes!

Core skills: Researching, reading, summarising, listing references

  • Different kinds of sources – study materials, textbooks, books and journals (difference between book chapters and journal articles)
  • Effective reading (skims, scan, preview, detailed, post-reading)
  • Note taking – pen and paper/hi-lighter/digital
  • Organising your research
